Our final assignment was to pick a word or theme from a list and to create a character/scene based on the word. I took the phrase "broken tooth" and ran with it, discovering in my research on the tooth fairy that "In medieval Europe, it was thought that if a witch were to get hold of one of your teeth, you could be in big trouble – possession of this part of your body might give them total power over you." So I made this evil witch/tooth fairy cross over who controls people by taking their teeth. She sits atop a disturbing throne of teeth and there's a variety of teeth in her pile - baby teeth, teeth that might not be human, and some teeth with the root attached still - teeth taken by force.

Monster Selfies !!
This assignment was great for many reasons. Mostly because Selfie Culture is great, MONSTER PEOPLE are great, and self representation is great. I started with taking a poll of my friends for what kind of monster person I would be (you know of tumblr's love for monster people yeah?) and got a few different responses. Then I remembered how I've always loved the idea of being a shape shifter because of how many different aesthetics I'm into. How else to depict a shape shifter but in a gif? I started by taking some selfies of my own that exaggerated the characters I was going for.
I picked the best ones and did a loose trace over them to speed up the process. Then I drew directly over those (opting out of the multiple passes of tracing paper I might normally go for), got my scans, and just went for it.

Idea: Two mermaids racing towards a piece of gold (mermaids love shiney things) which is, unfortunately, mermaid hunting bait.
